*This lesson plan is designed for a high school marketing class.
Topic Description: This lesson will allow students to analyze Black Friday shopping prices and deals. They will be given $1,000 to spend as they choose, purchasing gifts for friends and/or family for the holidays. They must "purchase" a minimum of 10 items. Students will compare the prices of each product from 3 different stores and record the prices in their spreadsheet. Finally, they will record the best price and total their purchases. Lesson Goals:
Complex Concepts:
Students will understand the process of searching for the best Black Friday Shopping deals and managing a budget. They will utilize basic Excel formatting, data input, and use a function to quickly add a series of prices.

Column headings include Item #, Item Name, Store #1, Price #1, Store #2, Price #2, Store #3, Price #3, and Best Price. Row headings include Total and Budget. Students will get their data (product prices) from Google searches of Black Friday deals, company websites, and ads.
Instructions: Use the Excel document and Google search of Black Friday sales to complete the spreadsheet activity.

- Format cells D4:D13, F4:F13, H4:H13, I4:I13, and I15 to be in the currency format (Home tab, Number group, drop down menu).
- Search, choose, and record 10 items to purchase for gifts for friends and/or family. Record items in cells B4:B13.
- Look up each item's Black Friday price at 3 different stores. Record the prices in each respective column.
- Determine the best price for each product. Record in cells I4:I13.
- Resize columns so all text is fully visible.
- Click in cell I15. Type the formula =SUM. Double click on the SUM function. Select cells I4:I13 and press enter. Make sure your total cost does not exceed your $1,000 budget.
